Slime Demise Why I needed to make it..

These last few months I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do after college. Deciding if I'm going to be a coach/teacher, work in IT, start my own private training facility, or try and get a job in the game design space. So on Monday, I decided to see if I could really fit in the Game Design Space by making a "Game Jam" style game.  I figured I would give myself a week so from Monday to Monday and I already had a theme in my mind from a big game jam that just ended. Thus Slime Demise was born, sticking with the theme I wanted the game to be ever-increasing in difficulty and I wanted to use this little slime guy I had drawn up for another game I'm working on. The funny thing to me in this whole development is that the actual code and mechanics for how the game works were so much easier than setting up the single animation for the slime and finding the art I wanted to use... THIS DID CONFIRM I AM NOT AN ARTIST HAHA!! I tried to actually pixel art create 3 things in this game and it was some of the most frustrating work I've ever tried to create... along with hard coding the gradual squash and shrink of the player because all the tutorials used the unity animation system didn't seem to work as well as I wanted. The hour or 2 that I wasted scanning the Itch.io assets page trying to find animated pixel art lava or fast-paced background music that I liked. In the end, the game turned out almost exactly how I had it drawn up on paper, the only things I threw in later were the spikes because I figured that was the best way to make the game harder rapidly.

Most of the process is saved as videos on my computer and I've had a lot of fun watching it back and seeing where this whole process started. Most important of all this little game confirmed for me something important... I can succeed in whatever path I choose to take and focus on after graduation.
